Your Jackson Clinic hospitalist is a doctor who specializes full time in the care of hospitalized patients.

Hospitalists are usually trained in internal medicine or critical care, but also come from other medical backgrounds. Because they do not see patients in the clinic, they are able to be in the hospital during the day, working with the staff and managing your care. The hospitalist can coordinate your hospital stay with more efficiency, improving overall patient satisfaction.

• Manages your care while in the hospital from admission to discharge.
• Coordinates your inpatient care team of nurses, pharmacists, social workers, rehabilitation professionals, and primary care and specialist physicians.
• Collaborates with surgeons by providing medical care for surgical patients.
• Works with critical care physicians to manage patients in the intensive care unit.
• Keeps your primary care physician informed of your hospital progress.
• Assumes care responsibilities for patients that lack a regular primary care physician.

The Jackson Clinic's successful hospitalist program was launched in 1997, the first of its kind in West Tennessee. Since then, hospitalists have improved the quality of medical care and patient satisfaction during hospital stays. While your primary physician is caring for patients in the office, the hospitalist is available to provide a daylong, active presence at the hospital. Without office patients to see, the hospitalist's full time role is to care for the hospitalized patient. The Jackson Clinic hospitalists provide consistent high quality care that includes:
