An orthopedic surgeon uses surgical, medical or physical means to investigate, preserve and restore functions to a patient's extremities or spine. Orthopedic surgeons treat injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints and ligaments, including knee and hip replacement and sports injuries. Orthopedic surgeons also treat ailments such as trauma or arthritis.
